Sue Eun Chung (정수은) is a Korea-born interdisciplinary artist based in the United States. She holds a BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art and an MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art. Chung’s work centers on the complexities and aftermath of domestic violence, a subject often silenced and stigmatized in her culture. Through abstracted imagery and found materials, she transforms personal experiences into tangible visual forms. Art has served as her sanctuary and means of communication, especially as she navigated new countries, languages, and the ongoing search for belonging. Working across diverse media and site-responsive installations, Chung creates symbolic objects imbued with layered meanings. These works act as surrogates for family histories and the lingering emotions embedded in lived spaces. Her practice explores acts of obsessive labor as a tribute to the resilience and coping strategies.
